REPORTING FROM JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — Neighbors found the 18-month-old boy crying alone in the bush outside his village of Wek in South Sudan.Both his parents had been shot to death about two weeks ago during ethnic clashes between the Murle and Luo-Nuer tribes in Jonglei state. The attackers had smashed the child’s head against a tree and left him for dead, according to witness accounts collected by the humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders. His head injuries were severe.

“He was abandoned, without any help,” a witness told the group, which released a report Tuesday on the violence. “We, the community, came looking for people who needed help in the bush and we found him, still alive and alone.”

Doctors Without Borders did not release the names of the witnesses out of concern for their safety.
About 55 people died in the Jan. 11 assault, which left dozens wounded. Many remain missing. The violence was carried out by Murle tribesmen in revenge for attacks by the opposing Luo-Nuer tribe late last year.

At least 120,000 people in Jongwei are in need of aid after violent attacks in December and January, according to the United Nations. There are no reliable estimates of the dead, with victims scattered over vast areas of bush.

In the U.S., halal certifiers are not government entities and, unlike organic food certifiers, are not accredited by the government.  The halal boards are privately run.

One of the largest halal groups is the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA), a Chicago-based multi-million dollar enterprise.  But as Family Security Matters has noted, “There are very few transparent news reports of the expansion” of the halal industry in North America.  The time has come for fuller scrutiny.

Truth about Peace in Iraq – They Can’t Handle it

The comments by the Colonel may be correct, not just regarding Iraq but Afghanistan as well.  Were the lives lost, blood and limbs lost their worth the cost.  Not to many of the surviving loved ones.  Many stories have discussed wounded warriors going back to be with their units. The were not required to do so, they felt they were making a big difference in the lives of those they were protecting.

Now with the rapid preannounced departure of our troops by an inept guy who calls himself the “Commander-in -Chief so that he can pander to the whims of the anti-war movement in his morally bankrupt party, should this be a surprize?

Our efforts were far from perfect, but in the case of Iraq we filled the void left by poorly trained and for the most part Iraqi troops which Iran will surely exploit Iraq taking over its Ramallah Oil Fields. 

Could it be more clear that our country needs new leadership with a fresh new direction?

The unsurprising news from Iraq now that US forces have withdrawn is that violence is up. Deadly attacks in the country have already claimed more than 460 civilian lives since the December 18^th withdrawal—representing a 35% increase over the average monthly death rate for 2011. Militants filled the power void US forces left, seeking to stir up civil war between Iraq’s majority Shiite and minority Sunni population. US officials suggest it is too early to tell whether the violence represents an anomaly or a trend. While, idealistically, we can hope it is the former, realistically we need to understand it is the latter.

CANADA: Supreme Court refuses to hear appeal in alleged torture case

OTTAWA — The Supreme Court of Canada has turned down a bid by three Arab-Muslim men to overturn a decision that allows the federal government to shield some national security information from use in a $180 million civil suit.

The trio were allegedly tortured in Syria and Egypt between 2001 and 2004, when they were under investigation in Canada for alleged terrorist ties. Almalki, a father of six, claims Canadian officials contributed to his ordeal by sending false, inflammatory information about him to foreign security services.

Among the documents protected is a top-secret communication between CSIS and the RCMP that had been accidentally sent to Almalki’s legal team.

The redactions had previously been ordered removed by Federal Court Judge Richard Mosely, who ruled that “public interest in holding government accountable for the alleged actions and omissions of its servants is an important issue in this case.” Two federal inquiries have established that the RCMP also sent questions for Almalki directly to the Syrians while he was in custody, even though warned about the possibility of torture.

In its statement of defence, the federal government has denied any wrongdoing and has blamed any mistreatment on the Syrians. The three men are seeking $60 million each; their families are seeking millions more in damages.

 (Gee, these three don’t look like any torture victims to me. What did they make them do – skip a meal?)

(Long War Journal) — The al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula commander who took control of a town in central Yemen late last week has released a short videotape urging Muslims “to unite and be patient” as “the Islamic Caliphate is coming.”

Tariq al Dhahab, the leader of the al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula forces that seized the town of Rada’a in Baydah province last weekend, made the statement in a 54-second-long video on YouTube that was released on Jan. 18.

Just mention to Parliament or press that England is not the isle of tranquility envisioned more than a century ago, when the nation began the systematic disarmament of its citizens.After years of chipping away at private firearm ownership through passage of a rash of seemingly innocuous rules and regulations, with the adoption of a total handgun ban in 1997, the British achieved what was hailed as the “gold standard” of gun control. At the time, leading newspapers in England heralded this “restraint on personal liberty” as “essential to the happiness” of the country`s law-abiding.

The credo was a simple but vacuous one: fewer guns mean fewer crimes. Essentially, it was the legal intention that “nobody, except a soldier, sailor or policeman” should ever have access to a handgun. Simultaneously, the courts took up the cause, prosecuting those who resisted violent attacks with any sort of armed reaction. Over time, it became evident that predators were apt to be judged less harshly than victims who used any type of device, even a stout stick, in an act of self-defense.

On December 1, Iranian thugs attacked the British Embassy in Tehran in hours-long violence. This recalled the Iranian seizure of the American Embassy in 1979, holding American diplomats hostage for 444 days. When the 1979 assault happened, right after the Iranian Revolution, the Revolutionary Government initially denied complicity (which may have been true). However, in short order, the Ayatollah decided to take credit for this act.

This time, the Iranian press claimed that a hundred “militant students” (really Revolutionary Guards) attacked the British embassy compound in Tehran, removed the British flag, burned it, and replaced it with Iran’s flag. According to Mehr News, the embassy staff fled through the back door while the thugs were busy burning framed photos of Queen Elizabeth II and Winston Churchill. The protesters also allegedly crushed a statue of the late Shah of Iran while chanting “Death to the Shah!” Law Enforcement finally managed to clear the protesters out of the embassy compound, but according to IRNA, a second wave of attacks managed to break through the police lines and seize the embassy itself.

The mob subsequently released a statement in which they claimed that “seizure of the British embassy has taken place with 33 years of delay… the embassy of the Old Fox should have been seized earlier.” They again claimed to be students, but obviously were not.
