Nine men who plotted to bomb the London Stock Exchange and build a terrorist training camp have been jailed.

The police kept the men under surveillance for some time before arresting them.

Three of the men – all members of an al-Qaeda inspired terror group – received indeterminate sentences for public protection at London’s Woolwich Crown Court.The court heard they had planned to raise funds for a terrorist camp in Pakistan and recruit Britons to attend.

A temporary cease fire?

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Talks between the Afghan Taliban and the United States in Qatar almost failed as the Taliban leadership reportedly refused to accept the U.S. demand of a ceasefire before swapping prisoners.

Sources in the Afghan Taliban said the Taliban had set up an office in Qatar hoping that it would help in a prisoners’ swap, especially for their five top commanders held at the Guantanamo Bay base since 2002.

The Taliban sources said their talks with the U.S. had been going for the past few years in exchange for an American soldier, Bowe Bergdahl, captured by Taliban militants in Afghanistan’s Paktika province in June 2009, bordering Pakistan’s South Waziristan.

Finland has introduced its first official; textbook to teach Islam in its public school system. Salam – islamin polku, or “Salam – the Path of Islam” is is intended for children in the first and second grades. Books for higher grades are currently under development.

Religious instruction is available at Finnish schools for pupils who are members of the established Lutheran and Orthodox Churches, as well as for those who are members of other officially registered religions if there is enough demand for the instruction in the school. Pupils who are not members of any religion take classes in ethics.

Though Islam is offered as a religious class in a number of public schools, previously there had been no textbook for the subject. Instead, the same handbook-type guide had been used at all grade levels.

One of the most popular web sites among American Muslims is Islam Online.

Islam Online was founded by Sheikh Yussef al-Qaradawi, a man we have written about extensively on SFW.

Qaradawi is perhaps best known in the Western world for being banned from travel to the USA and the UK because of his ties to Jihadist terrorist organizations.

Qaradawi also served as the chair of the Shariah Advisory Board for Bank al-Taqwa, a bank shut down by the US Treasury Department several years ago because it was funneling millions of dollars to several Jihadist terrorist groups.

In 2008, Qaradawi called for Islamic finance and economics to replace capitalism.

Despite all this baggage, Qaradawi is considered the most prominent Sunni Shariah scholar in the world and one of the ideological leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is the political wing of the global Jihadist insurgency.

A former Staten Islander accused of trying to join the Taliban may plead guilty to charges he lied to federal authorities about his alleged plan, according to a published report.

The attorney for Abdel Hameed Shehadeh, 21, formerly of Annadale and Prince’s Bay, revealed the plea negotiations today during an appearance in Brooklyn federal court, the New York Daily News is reporting.

Five people were killed and 20 were wounded in the bombings and mortar attacks that targeted Christians across the city, police and hospital officials said. Iraqi Christians are already reeling after the earlier attack on a Sunday Mass service left 68 people dead, and many are now wondering whether it’s time to leave their homeland.

At a house on the grounds of Our Lady of Salvation Church, Karim Patros Thomas was under no illusion that the community is under siege.

KUALA LUMPUR – The revelation by the Auditor-General’s Department that the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) had wanted to dispose 70 air conditioner units despite their working condition has left former Perlis Mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin wondering about the state of the country’s religious institutions.

“The parties involved must provide an explanation as to how far this is true,” said Asri in a blog posting.

The recently-released report by the Auditor-General criticised MAIWP for its plan last year to scrap seventy air conditioning units acquired in 2007 and 2008 despite not being listed in the evaluation board’s report.

Rome, 22 Sept. (AKI) – European airports and other transport hubs are on “high alert” amid fears of a spate of attacks by Algerian female suicide bombers, Israeli intelligence website Debka said on Wednesday, citing counter terrorism sources.

Security has been stepped up at London’s Heathrow, Amsterdam’s Schiphol and airports in Mocow, Berlin and Rome, as well as at major European railway and underground stations, Debka said.

The commander of French police and security services Frederic Pechenard said on radio Wednesday they had “serious evidence coming from reliable intelligence sources telling us there is a risk of a major attack.”

ISLAMIC terrorists disguised as street cleaners allegedly hatched an audacious plot to blow up the Pope.

The threatened attack was foiled at the 11th hour after police raided a cleaning depot in London as the suspects prepared to start their shift yesterday.

Last night six men – all believed to be North Africans aged between 26 and 50 – were being questioned by detectives.

Five suspects were detained at the cleaning depot and the sixth was held at his home yesterday afternoon.

Founder Of Islamic Charity Convicted Funneling $150,000 To Chechen Mujahideen

After a week-long trial, a federal court in Eugene, Oregon has convicted Pete Seda [pictured], the founder of an Islamic charity accused of funneling $150,000 to Chechen mujahideen.

Seda, also known as Pirouz Sedaghaty, was charged with conspiring to move money out of the United Sates without declaring it, as required by federal law, and with filing false tax returns to hide the fact that the money ever existed. According to federal officials, Seda accepted a large donation intended to support “our Muslim brothers in Chychnia,” and then surreptitiously shifted the money to Saudi Arabia in the form of difficult to trace traveler’s checks.
